主人公是一个叫戴维·曼恩（丹尼斯·韦弗 Dennis Weaver 饰）的中年男子,是日他在空无一人的州际公路上径自驾车。随后一辆大卡车涌现了,挡在戴维后面,他绝不虚心地超越对方。然后两车在公路上相互超了对方的车,一开端戴维还喜洋洋地想超越对方走在后面,厥后他却发明大卡车司机像发狂一样想置他于逝世地。他只好停上去,在路边餐厅整理一下预备继承上路,发明那辆形如鬼怪的大卡车停在表面,戴维乃至不晓得司机是谁。随后大卡车始终追赶着戴维,他想尽方法也甩不掉落这辆大卡车,他只好与这辆跬步不离的卡车开展决战…… 本片是斯皮尔伯格的童贞作,在美国掉掉落了艾美奖最佳音效剪辑,斯皮尔伯格也因而片掉掉落了拍摄「明白鲨」的机遇。
